Meet Zamya: A Beacon of Resilience and Determination

Fourteen-year-old Zamya and her family are part of our passport program at the Harvest Center. Despite facing the challenge of homelessness, Zamya exemplifies resilience and determination. As a 9th grader at Sugar Creek Charter, she made the brave choice to attend a school that best supports her development, rather than following a more popular option. This decision has allowed her to thrive academically, and she now proudly maintains an impressive 4.0 GPA.

Zamya’s resilience is particularly evident in her response to setbacks. When she didn’t make the cheerleading team, she remained motivated, understanding that another opportunity would come her way. As the oldest sibling, she takes on the responsibility of setting expectations for her younger brother and sister, demonstrating maturity beyond her years. She dreams of becoming a cosmetologist, a goal she pursues with unwavering passion.

Amidst all this, Zamya is also coping with the recent loss of her grandfather. Yet she continues to push forward, embodying strength and perseverance. Her story is a powerful reminder that with determination and tenacity, any obstacle can be overcome.
